description: renovation of an existing house in Plaka, Athens
design team: Alexandra Stratou, Eirini Kapetana, Lambros Skapinakis
year: 2025
The building at Prytaneiou Street is a three-story corner residence that functioned as three independent properties—one in the basement, one on the ground floor, and one on the first floor. The owner wishes to restore the building as a single residence with an internal staircase and a connection to her adjacent property. The main concern of the proposal is to preserve the basic elements that make up the character of the building and to modernize it so that it meets the needs of the tenants. The proposal provides for the maintenance of the elements of the facades wherever possible and the addition of decorative elements with the goal of integrating the building into the Plaka neighborhood.
The proposed changes to the interior layout of the residence serve to unify the three floors into a single residence with a staircase and a connection to the adjacent property. On the ground floor, an opened-up living room and a built-in library are proposed, as well as the reducing of the size of the utility rooms. The master bedroom, two walk-in closets, and a bathroom are located on the upper floor.
