description: design for a private house in Ekali, Athens

design team: Alexandra Stratou, Eleanna Malandraki, Eirini Kapetana, Lambros Skapinakis

year: 2023

The study for extensions to an existing building from the 1950s in Ekali responds to the owners' need for more space. The main concern of the study was to preserve the surrounding garden and all the trees in it. The annexes are located on either side of the existing building, set back from it in order to preserve its clean geometry. The western annex serves as the entrance hall and staircase, while the eastern annex houses the kitchen of the ground floor and a bedroom with two dressing rooms on the upper floor. The sculptural design of the annexes is differentiated from the existing main volume through the use of curves, which also serve as a reference to the typology of the Tower found in the mansions of neighboring Kifissia. The outdoor space is composed of a paved terrace and a swimming pool, while the existing garden is preserved to the maximum possible extent.
